Our aims and output
Ensure global food security – end hunger
- According to most recent figures, up to 783 million people in the world are suffering from hunger and about 2.4 billion (29.6 % of the world’s population) people do not have reliable and safe access to adequate and sufficient food.
- We intend to work together to find solutions for the farming sector in order to ensure global food security.
- We aim at realising the right to adequate food at global level.
- We intend to monitor and document the development of the global discussion on food security.
- We thereby hope to make a contribution to the implementation of the Agenda 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
Make agriculture more sustainable
- Agriculture is the largest employment sector worldwide and currently provides income for 40% of the world’s population.
- The global population is predicted to rise to around 10 billion by the year 2050.
- Providing these people with the available scarce natural resources will be the most urgent global challenge of our future.
- Our goal is to make smart, efficient and sustainable use of these resources around the globe and thus to increase agricultural productivity in a sustainable manner.
- We aim at presenting new approaches and solutions for sustainable agriculture in regional and global facets.
- We want to identify common challenges and opportunities for synergies in our food systems.
Provide a global platform
- We provide an attractive platform to discuss the key issues for the future of the global food and agricultural sectors.
- Each year we chose another subject, focusing on the most vital challenges to the food systems.
- We want to initiate transnational and global research partnerships.
- We aim at mobilizing participation of thought leaders and key stakeholders from all hemispheres.
- We intend to establish an open, equal and science-based dialogue among key stakeholders from governments, academia, civil society and business.
Our Output
The GFFA provides impetus for the development of food systems worldwide through:
- The Communiqué of the Berlin Agriculture Ministers’ Conference containing policy recommendations agreed on by the agriculture ministers of more than 70 States and involving the contribution of more than 10 international organisations. For example, the actions agreed on by the 2020 Berlin Agriculture Ministers’ Conference included initiating an International Platform for Digital Food and Agriculture.
- Statement agreed by 15 to 20 young farmers from all continents.
- Exhibition of innovations and flagship projects.
- Strengthening of networking and multilateral dialogues.
- Outreach through social and traditional media coverage and public relations activities.
