The event will highlight opportunities for the livestock sector to contribute to Agenda 2030 with a focus on environmental sustainability, climate resilience, healthy nutrition and economic development through a combination of short presentations by expert speakers followed by facilitated and lively audience discussions.
Following some opening remarks by the Director General of ILRI, and an opening speech by the Deputy Director General and Commissioner for the ONE WORLD – No Hunger Initiative at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) an overview will be given by the Chair of the Global Agenda for Sustainable Livestock on the eight Sustainable Development Goals to which the global livestock sector can make direct and substantial contributions.
This will be followed by three short presentations from an expert in environmental sciences, and an expert in human nutrition, as well as from a smallholder pig farmer from Uganda:
The event will conclude with an audience discussion to identify highest priority actions and solutions for sustainable livestock futures supporting human and environmental well-being.
